25. NINA REMEMBERS

Nina told Marc about her escapade with Nano and the wealth of themes that had inspired him and the false pregnancy, and her intention not to let him know, Nano assuming her supposed paternity, for which she now felt guilty, for that reason too. She should apologize.

Marc seemed affected by Nina's revelations but accepted that both had done wrong, and for that reason, they had to forgive each other.

“You don't have to apologize either, I put you at that risk, and I wouldn't have accepted my fatherhood either. I am more guilty than you. And since we have made our confession about that dark chapter of our past relationship, let's make a clean slate and tell me what has happened to all those wonderful songs you wrote with Nano. What has become of them?”

“At the wish of my father, I have enrolled in the Law School. He wants me to have a degree because he believes that music is not a profession, just entertainment. Many times I think the same ...”

“You, lawyer?” Marc interrupted. “I can't believe you're serious. You carry the poison of art in your blood, and you were not born to defend lawsuits from worldly things, or the writing of a will or to process the fraud complaint of an unscrupulous merchant. Doesn't your father see it?”

“I think he understands, but he suspects the art world and wants me to secure my future with something more solid than the notes in a score. But my father has allowed me to take a year's break to record the songs I wrote with Nano. So I was at the music academy because I need a musician to help me record the songs that you already know.”

Marc took a long gulp of beer and was silent for a few moments, unable to avoid an expression of astonishment.

“Nina, that fate is making its move, because it met me at the right time ...”

“What do you mean?”

“That I can be the person you are needing, because I am the assistant to the artistic director of the most important record label in the country, and representing some of our best musicians. I can make your dream come true if you let me represent you! I know your songs will be very successful. Do you trust me?”

That was a strange move of fate, but Nina agreed to put her dreams and ambitions in Marc's hands, not only because she trusted him now, but because there was a part of the memories of the night which she had refused to accept even his fortuitous reunion at the music academy: his irresistible physical attractiveness, the unnerving scent of his tanned skin, and the sensuality of his hands caressing her breasts. Only after their reunion, Nina acknowledged with a painful feeling of guilt that Marc had seduced her with his irresistible attraction.
