31. THE INTERVIEW
After several exhausting hours that the photoshoot lasted and having taken hundreds of images, of which only one would be chosen, Nina was able to recover her calm, and the demanding photographer seemed pleased.
“Magnificent session, Nina, you have behaved wonderfully well. You will be very successful, I already told you, I have photographed all the singers of the record company!”
But Nina did not answer; she realized the exorbitant price she would have to pay for the desired fame. She was furious with Marc because he had not been clear and had warned her about everything that humiliated her dignity. She barely got out of the car that brought her back, called Marc to reproach him for his behavior.
“Nina, calm down, I understand that you are furious with me, but I also don't know how this entire world of record companies works; I've only been working here for six months, and until now, I've been practicing the artistic director's errand boy. Now, at least I may attend certain meetings. You have been the first initiative that I have presented and that they have accepted, but I do not know as much as you how this idols factory works.”
“Okay, Marc, I accept your excuses, but what else would they want me to do against my will?
Nina soon had the answer, and it was the same managing director who informed her of the interview that she should give to a well-known presenter of a popular pop music program.
“Young lady, I don't see you vivacious,” the managing director commented as soon as Marc himself introduced her into his office. “You were more lively in that piano-bar on the coast!”
Nina tried to force a smile, but she barely made a slight gesture.
“Aren't you happy about the outstanding success of your first album? If there is something you don't like, tell me, and we will fix it. I want you to feel good in this house ... but let's move on to another topic. We have arranged an interview for you in the most popular music program among teenagers. The producer and I have been friends since childhood and will do as I ask. Here you have the questionnaire of the questions they will ask you and your answers. You better take the rest of the day off and learn the answers. Tomorrow we will pick you up, and we will go together to the television studios. I want to greet my old friend and give him some ideas on how the interview should be. You understood it, right?”
Nina nodded again with a resigned shake of her head because, for her, everything that happened around her was just lies!
When they left the director manager’s luxurious office, Nina couldn't help but ask Marc an angry question:
“Marc, isn't there a way to get rid of all this?”
“I'm afraid not, Nina, only death or a serious illness is a justification for terminating the contract ...”
The next day as planned, the director-manager picked up a stressed-out Nina in her luxurious car with obvious symptoms of having spent the night awake for the uncertainties she suffered. The director-manager was alarmed.
“Nina, you don't look good. Have you had a foul night? Are you worried about the interview? I had already assumed it. You don't have to worry. Everything will be fine. Have you learned the questionnaire?” Nina nodded. “Superb! Nina, you are not very talkative, but it is preferable to being a chatterbox. Okay, let's get going because this is the worst time of day, and we may run into some traffic jams.”
In the television studios, the show's own producer went to a busy visiting room to greet his old friend, the managing director.
“Dear friend, I haven't seen you in this house for a long time!” And addressing Nina, he said, exaggerating his gestures. “Ah, you are Nina, this year's revelation! My children adore you! But when we go to my office, we will be calmer.”
Nina met the popular presenter who was supposed to interview her, who tried to calm her growing nervousness.
“Don't worry, Nina, we will do the recording without an audience, and we can edit it if something goes wrong. You know what I'll ask you and what your answers should be. Don't quote names of people or brands or products, and you must brighten up that worried expression a little.” Nina smiled to please the presenter. “That's better! Give the image of a strong and confident girl, but smiling and cheerful. That is what your many fans expect. You can't let them down!”
“I am the one who is disappointed!” Nina thought, indignant, but without abandoning her forced a smile.
Nina passed that new test, but she felt she was betraying Nano when they asked her the question she feared the most:
“Nina, at first glance, I can see that you are a cheerful and funny young lady, and, if this were not enough, you are the musical star of the moment. You already have thousands of fans who adore you, and you transmit to them in return all the positive energy of your songs, but what about your heart? Do you have someone who steals your heart?”
To which she had to respond:
“My heart? My heart is free as a bird, but I gladly would like to find someone kind, happy, and fun to make a nest? ”
An hour after the interview broadcast, the television channel's email was blocked with hundreds of emails with the same subject in the “Subject” field: “Nina's heart,” and the same thing happened in Messenger and WhatsApp. And a new appeared on the Twitter hashtag: #nina heart.
