44. THE LAST SONG
While virtually the entire population seemed deserted during the siesta time, Nina and Nano worked on Nina's last peace song's music and arrangements.
“Nina,” Nano commented in amazement, “your latest songs are not like the romantic Nina's that I knew when I was the hammock boy.” What happened?”
“Perhaps, that the one before was a teenager who discovers life, and now she is a young woman who discovers the world, with all its violence, injustices and falsehoods…”
“Yes, that must be… Then welcome to the confused world of the adults! Can our innocence survive?”
“If we lose our innocence, only mistrust will remain, and how will peace be possible if we distrust each other? I don't have the answer, I just have my song!”
After multiple discarded proposals, they found the melody with the heartbreaking tone it needed, and, after singing it several times, they concluded it.
At dusk, when the shadows already covered the slope, and the cliffs were drawn with the reddish flash of the last rays of the sun, the two musicians headed to the place on the beach where they were due to give the last concert before fixing their residence in London. Virtually everyone, eventual tourists or vacationers, from the small town already occupied a place, sitting or lying on the beach's warm sand. When Nina and Nano arrived, they received warm applause, and then there was a respectful silence while waiting for their performance.
Nina presented her two new songs:
“I had a philosophical grandma, although she had hardly attended school. She encouraged me to be a singer-songwriter because she knew how to read my heart's desires. But she warned me: “Girl, happiness is not in success, but in the dreams of success that you have on the way to achieving it. When you reach the summit, go back down to the plain and find yourself a different summit to continue walking. ” The two songs that we are going to sing to you today are composed on the way to a new summit and make me happy. We have titled it: “Sing with me” and “The reason for unreason.”
And they sang their two new songs, leaving all the attendees somewhat puzzled because, in that heavenly place, it was easy to forget that somewhere on the planet there is a girl who cries because her father has died in a war and that her mother does not know which one it is the reason.
