32. THE POSTERS

Not a day passed without some surprise for Nina. A day after that unworthy interview, she was aware of what the record company had proposed: she had the suspicion they use her to create the star that suited their interests, regardless of her feelings or opinions.

Last few days, she barely had time to take care of household chores, such as scrubbing the four dishes of the last meals or going to the supermarket to replenish some food in a refrigerator containing some yogurt with the date of past expiration.

For the firsts would be confirmed she the time, no one had bothered her with introspective phone calls. She tried to forget about the latest events, determined to behave like a normal person, she entered a supermarket with a small list in which she had written the most important thing. For some inexplicable reason, she felt relaxed. She went through several sections, selecting what she wanted. But she noticed something strange in the other's behavior buyers; they stopped shopping and looked at her as if she had forgotten to take off the curlers, or had the zipper on her dress open. She found that everything was normal, but more and more buyers were watching her blatantly. During that distressing feeling of harassment, a teenage girl approached her with a mobile in her hand and asked the astonished Nina:

“Nina, will you let me take a photo with you? You're cool in the poster picture!”

“In the poster? What poster?”

“Well, what a poster is it going to be: yours, in which you announce your concert that I don't miss! Will you let me take a picture with you? In the College, they will freak out, and when I upload it on Facebook and Twitter, I will have thousands of likes.”

She could not continue talking to the teenager because a dense circle had formed around her photographing her with his mobile phones. Someone came out of the circle with a bottle of wine in one hand and a marker in the other.

“Please, Nina, sign me an autograph on this bottle of wine, I will keep it as a souvenir of this encounter!”

Nina felt like she was a cornered animal. She abandoned the basket with what she had selected and made her way through the dense circle and rushed out into the street, and right there, in the space dedicated to advertising the bus stop canopy, was the poster that mentioned the teenager: one of the many images taken by the record company photographer in the car scrapping.

She appeared in an aggressive pose, covered in two sparse mythological garments. But what pretended to be a gust of wind lifted her sparse skirt showing part of her buttocks.

Nina was terribly embarrassed. If they had consulted her, she would not have allowed that one. They not only proposed to humiliate her but also corrupt her!

The teenager had come after her because she insisted on photographing herself with Nina.

“It's cool image, eh, Nina! Do we take the photo now?”

Nina wanted to hide, go back to her apartment, and not go out until it was dark at night so no one would recognize her. She knew that this insistent teenager would follow her until she achieved what she had set out to do. She got together and urged her:

“Take your picture quickly and leave me alone!”

“If you get like this, well, I don't take a photo, but on the Internet, they will find out about the bad temper you spend!”

“Excuse me, you caught me at an awful time! Come take the photo you want so much.”

As soon as the teenager had her long-awaited photo, her mobile phone rang, and Nina had the feeling that a storm was coming. He was his father and seemed very upset.

“Nina! How have you consented to have that photo taken? Is that why you wanted a year off?”

Nina was on the verge of tears and watched by a group of onlookers who had related the poster's image to her. While her father continued to reproach her for her conduct, she quickly left the crowded place, rushed up the stairs without waiting for the elevator, awkwardly opened the door of his apartment, and, once inside, fell down on the bed deeply dejected. While her father insistently demanded her attention.

“Nina, do you hear me?”

“Yes, Dad, I hear you!”

“And what do you have to say?”

“They forced me, dad; They threatened to sue me for breach of contract ...”

“And why didn't you ask me?”

“I had no chance ... everything was quick ...”

“Okay. I don't think in the contract some clauses force you to show you indecently. Bring me the contract today, so I can check out the clauses...”

“But, dad, is that Marc has it ... and he's my agent ...”

“Marc? Nina, won't it be the same Marc that ...?”

“Yes, Dad, it's the same one you think of.”

“Nina, daughter, I think you have lost your mind, and you must abandon your dreams of greatness as soon as possible and return to the Faculty. That world is not made for you!”

“But, Dad..!”

“There are no buts, daughter, you have proven to have little head. Tomorrow I will meet with the record company lawyer and see if we can terminate your contract, and you can go back to the next course at the university.
